Who We Are

Our Legacy

Equippers Church in Canberra was originally launched as Fusion City Church in July 2008 after Pastors Matt and Gill McGaw, and their family, relocated from Adelaide to pioneer a contemporary, spirit-filled church in our nation’s capital.

From humble beginnings, the church is now a growing, thriving community with people of all ages, from a wide array of backgrounds.

We seek to do life together with reality, passion, warmth and with the heartbeat of Jesus at the centre. We believe there is a significant legacy that is unfolding here at Equippers, and we would love for you to be part of that too.

Our Values

Our values as a church are summarised in an acronym, HEART. These determine our 'why' and help guide our decisions.

  • We seek to honour God, God's Word and each other.

  • We excel by having a spirit of excellence. We excel in giving God the best of our time, talent and treasure.

  • Greatness comes from serving others and being more like Jesus. We advance the Kingdom of God when we use our gifts by serving God, our city and one another.

  • We are intentional about reaching out to those who are close to us, but far away from God.

  • We love doing life together. We're not just people who are in the same room together, but united together together. Sharing a common vision to love God and to love others.

Our Beliefs

Equippers Church in Canberra aims to be a culturally relevant yet theologically conservative people. A brief summary of the principles of faith embraced by Equippers includes: The Holy Scriptures - their inspiration by God and their infallibility. The Godhead - comprised of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ - His eternal co-existence with the persons of the Godhead, His incarnation, His vicarious death and resurrection for our sanctification and justification, His ascension, His coming personal return to this earth. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that through Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; man is totally depraved and of himself utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. The work of the Holy Spirit producing: Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The fruit of the Holy Spirit which is the manifestation of the character of Christ in the believer. The gifts of the Holy Spirit for the fulfilling of the ministry of Christ in, and flowing out from, Fusion. The work of the Lord Jesus Christ producing: The Spirit-filled Christian life. Divine healing on the basis of His atoning death and resurrection. Liberty from bondages originating in man’s fallen state. The observation of the ordinances of baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that the church, which is the body and espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons, regardless of organisational affiliation. We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures. We believe in the autonomy of the local churches, free of any external authority and control, working in partnership with apostolic ministry. The involvement of every believer in the life and outreach of Equippers under Scriptural leadership.

Our Theme

Each year we have a theme which helps us focus on what we feel God is doing within our church. This year the theme is ON MISSION.

Being a follower of Jesus means you are ON MISSION. Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 4:19 “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus lived ON MISSION and he in turn wanted those who followed Him to do likewise. His MISSION was His life, and His life was His mission.

God has positioned each and everyone one of us exactly where He wants us to be. In fact the Bible says clearly that He has SENT US into the world.

That mission requires us to see what Jesus sees and then be willing to be used as part of His solution to bring His good news and light to dark places.
